JOB DESCRIPTION: Senior Planner
Company: City of Fernandina Beach
Responsible professional work assisting in the administration of the City’s Land Development Code and the Comprehensive Plan. Assists the Community Development Director with the coordination of personnel for planning and implementing the overall development review process for residential, commercial and industrial development projects citywide. Work involves review of potential development projects, and issue resolution associated with the City’s overall planning policies and community development direction. Work involves considerable public contact, often of a sensitive nature and requires the exercise of patience, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy. Responsible for attending and presenting Planning Division staff reports to the various Boards and Commissions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field and five years related work experience in municipal planning and zoning required. Master’s Degree in urban or regional planning (or closely related field) preferred. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred. Valid Florida driver’s license required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred. Knowledge of the comprehensive planning process and the comprehensive plan, including its implemental mechanisms. Thorough understanding of the principles, practices and methods of City planning and regulatory land use requirements and techniques. An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience may be substituted to meet the minimum requirements.
