JOB DESCRIPTION: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

SSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Repairs and maintains diesel and gasoline trucks
DUTIES TO PERFORM:
1. Reads job order and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
2. Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts.
3. Overhauls gas or diesel engines.
4. Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments.
5. Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.
6. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, and pull and push heavy loads. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Experience: Requirements
1. Education and/or Experience
a. Technical program certificate; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Language Skills
a. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
3. Mathematical Skills
a. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
4. Reasoning Ability
a. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
